It may have been my first study abroad to Mexico where I discovered the ease and GENIUS of zipper pockets. I remember thinking I didn’t want to lose my things.
A few months after I was in Mexico, I was in Argentina for 18 months serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was hot most of the time, but zippers were still a big part of daily life. My hip bag was my zipper friend and kept all things safe.
After the mission I was home for a year and was accepted to an internship in Argentina teaching employment classes. This time I was cold most of the time and was very dependent on the orange sweater and black coat pictured above. We rode a lot of buses, some late at night or overnight. I fell asleep most of those times and felt safe doing so since I knew nothing would fall out of my pocket and that it would be harder for people to slip something out of there. Also, safe since I had an intern buddy who was with me all of the time. 🙂
As a mom I’ve continued wearing sweaters and coats with zipper pockets. It is so easy to lose things (and people) when you are out and about. This way I can stick a pacifier, my keys, my phone or whatever it may be and not worry about loosing those things. I can swing on the swing, nurse, or run my son over to a bush to pee without having to worry about losing my stuff.
Next time you step out, especially in a crowd- grab a sweater or jacket with zipper pockets!
